Daytime load shedding returns with stage 1, stage 3 at night
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Eskom announced the return of daytime load shedding with stage 1 being implemented from 5:00 until 16:00 on Wednesday and Thursday.
The planned power cuts will remain at stage 3 from 16:00 until midnight.
Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says the implementation of stage 1 load shedding is due to an increase in generation unit failures.
"Load shedding will be suspended from midnight on Thursday until 16:00 on Friday and stage 3 load shedding will be implemented again from 16:00 until midnight.
“Breakdowns currently amounts to 14 991MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 4 264MW.”
Mokwena says a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Kriel and Matla power stations was returned to service over the past 24 hours
In the same period, a generation unit each at Majuba and Tutuka power stations was taken out of service due to breakdowns.
"The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Tutuka Power Station is contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return generating units to service over the next few days," she adds.
