De Jager case continues
Updated | By Catrine Malan
The trial of Johannes Chritstian de Jager, accused of killing and dismembering teenager Charmaine Mare, and murdering prostitute Hiltina Alexander, will continue in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, prosecutor Romay van Rooyen cross-examined De Jager, 49, on the conversations between himself and 16-year-old Charmaine Mare, which she had recorded on her cellphone in January last year.
De Jager told the court he could not recall all the conversations he had with her.
The conversations apparently took place in Mare's bedroom.
De Jager said she had been lying on the bed with her back against the wall and he had been sitting near her.
The recordings were transcribed and placed in front of De Jager on the stand, who confirmed they took place a few days before her death.
He avoided directly answering some of Van Rooyen's questions and seemed to have a poor memory, which he attributed to drinking heavily at the time.
De Jager has pleaded not guilty to killing Mare on January 11.
