De Lange will vacate her post at the end of June.

She addressed the media following a meeting between the leadership of law enforcement agencies in Gauteng and Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane on Friday.

De Lange took over from the former acting provincial police commissioner Lesetja Mothiba‚ in 2016.

" I was told the reason for me leaving the province is because of the rotation that is going to take place nationally and also the succession plan. I asked 'what has this to do with me?'

"Because when you talk about succession plan you are talking about somebody who is leaving who is supposed to mentor somebody. When I really wanted to go deeper to say what is this, there was no explanation for me. So I really don't know why I am leaving. I don't know."

It's understood that former Gauteng police commissioner Mzwandile Petros will succeed de Lange.

The national police have remained tight-lipped on details of de Lange's departure, citing protocol.

"The status of an employee falls within the employer or employee relationship which is respected by SAPS management. Any relevant announcements will be made by management at an appropriate time," said police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
