Patricia De Lille has vowed to approach the court following the Democratic Alliance's (DA) decision to rescind her membership.

The DA says its decision to boot out De Lille also means she will have to step down as mayor of Cape Town.

De Lille says the case will be heard on Friday.

"As I speak my lawyers have sent court papers,” she told a media briefing in Cape Town on Tuesday.

De Lille says the so-called 'De Lille clause', which allows the DA to recall a mayor as soon as he or she loses the confidence of their caucus, is undemocratic and unconstitutional.
