Deadline looms for Gauteng school admissions
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
Gauteng parents have one day left to apply for admission of Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils for the 2020 academic year.
Online admissions applications close at midnight on Monday.
"As a province, we are pleased that the parent population and stakeholders in Gauteng have embraced the use of the online application,” says Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona.
"This groundbreaking online application has provided the department with credible and reliable information.
"We will, therefore, continue to enhance this system and link it to other existing government systems, to further strengthen the credibility of the information attained".
Some 298 003 parents have already registered their children for the 2020 academic year, but the department is concerned over the more than 62 000 applicants that have not yet submitted required documents to schools.
"Parents will not receive offers of placement from schools where no documents were submitted,” warns Mabona.
"However, to accommodate parents that haven't submitted these documents, provision has been made for schools to accept documents until 31 July at 14:00.
"Parents must submit documents to all the schools that they have applied to and receive a receipt to acknowledge the submission of documents. No further extensions will be granted.”
The department says that the placement period for admission will start on August 30 and run until the end of October.
"Placement offers will be sent to parents via SMS - however, they must accept offers online or by visiting the nearest school, district or head office within seven days,” says Mabona.
"If the parent does not accept one offer of placement within seven days, the learner will automatically be placed at one of the schools that made the offer".
Applications can be made by logging on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za or by visiting the nearest School, District or Head Office for assistance.
