Deadline set to wrap-up land submissions report

The Joint Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) has given it's first indication when MPs would like to present the report on land expropriation without compensation to Parliament.

Parliament

Members of Parliament in the National Assembly and NCOP will soon receive the final report on the submissions made pertaining to land expropriation without compensation.

The Joint Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) newly elected chairperson, Stanford Maila says they would like to conclude the final report by 15 November.

Maila says they have written to presiding officers, Baleka Mbete and Thandi Modise to present, debate and vote on the report between 26 and 28 November.

The report will determine whether South Africans want the Constitution amended to allow for expropriation without compensation.

"We are still awaiting approval from Parliament for them to give us the go-ahead. The initial date has passed, so there is no way we can't get their approval."

The committee has identified the final 19 people and organisations to make oral presentations.

"People and organisations will be making those representations," says Maila.
