Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has confirmed the death toll from the Boksburg gas tanker explosion has risen to 41.
In a short statement on Wednesday, Lesufi took to Twitter to provide an update on the Christmas Eve explosion.
Last week the Gauteng Department of Health held a healing service in memory of the 12 healthcare workers from Tambo Memorial Hospital who died following the explosion.
The tanker, which was transporting liquid petroleum gas, exploded after it became stuck under a low-lying bridge in the Plantation residential area.
Lesufi added that the investigation has been completed and the docket has been forwarded to the relevant authorities for a decision.
Sadly the death toll in the #BoksburgExplosion now stands at 41. We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased. The police, I am briefed, are ready to take the matter back to court pic.twitter.com/we9eTBSXyk
