Death toll from recent KZN floods rises to nine
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Local government authorities say nine people lost their lives in KwaZulu-Natal after the recent heavy rains caused flooding in the province's northern parts.
Torrential downpours lashed the eNdumeni, Jozini, Big Five Hlabisa, Nquthu and Mthubathuba areas earlier this month.
A three-month-old baby boy from Newcastle and a 52-year-old man from Dannhauser were among the victims.
KZN Cooperative Governance spokesperson, Nonala Ndlovu, says their teams are still assessing the damage.
"The figure that we have now is standing at nine fatalities - four females, four males and one infant male.
"They passed away due to drowning, but the infant passed away due to flooding in the house they were living in."
