Defence to contest admissibility of ‘confessions’ by two accused in Meyiwa trial
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The defence representing accused number one and two in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Sipho Ramosepele, is set to challenge the admissibility of alleged confessions made by his clients.
Ramosepele represents Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi.
He will argue against the admissibility of statements during a trial-within-a-trial in the High Court in Pretoria on Friday.
"My lord, let me clarify from my instructions. My instructions are that he never made any statements," Ramosepele told the court on Wednesday.
"So your client denies that he made a statement? He also denies he made a confession, and he also denies that he made admissions?" questioned Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng.
"That is so, my lord," said Ramosepele.

According to evidence presented by state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi, both Sibiya and Ntanzi Meyiwa made confessions in the wake of Meyiwa’s death in October 2014.
Baloyi said Sibiya made one confession statement while Ntanzi made two.
"There's one confession for accused one and a pointing out, and number two made two confessions."
But Ramosepele argued in court that Sibiya was beaten up and abused into signing the statement.
Proceedings will resume on Friday.
