Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s son Chumani, 23, has been murdered, the department said on Sunday.
“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we must inform you of the sudden passing of Chumani Nqakula,” the department said in a statement.
Nqakula is the son of Mapisa-Nqakula and former cabinet minister Charles Nqakula.
“He was allegedly killed by someone he knew on Saturday, 31 October 2015, at Bezuidenhout Valley, Johannesburg. The perpetrator has been detained,” the department said.
“The ministry of defence and military veterans sends its heartfelt condolences to minister Mapisa-Nqakula and her family. May God give them the comfort and peace they require during this difficult time and may Chumani’s soul rest in eternal peace.”
Additional details on the matter, including funeral arrangements, would be communicated in due course.
