Defiant Mugabe's noon deadline looms
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe stunned his citizens and the world when he failed to announce his resignation on Sunday night.
The defiant Mugabe addressed the nation in a much-anticipated live TV broadcast.
Mugabe made it clear that he would not quit.
"I am aware that many developments have occurred in the party, however we cannot be guided by bitterness or vengefulness - both of which would not make us any better," he said.
The 93-year-old made the address hours after the ruling party, Zanu PF, ousted him as leader.
First lady, Grace Mugabe, was also expelled from a number of high positions within the party.
Jacaranda FM News' Zimbabwean correspondent Zenzele Ndebele says some people think Mugabe read the wrong speech.
