Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Parktown says it is ready to resume services following the destructive fire which broke out in the building some three weeks ago.
The hospital is unable to open its doors to patients as it is still awaiting a certificate of compliance from the City of Johannesburg.
Acting CEO Makhosini Nyembe said on Monday morning that the hospital must still receive the certificate from the city.
"Where we are as a hospital, we are ready to resume services, subject to one certificate of compliance from the fire department at the City of Johannesburg.

"If we get a clearance as of today as in now, we are ready to activate the plan as mentioned by the clinical director."
Meanwhile, the hospital is expected to have a phase-in approach for the various services.
The hospital's clinical director Dr Jay Punwasi said some support services have already resumed.
"The next phase which is phase 0 which is ensuring all the support services as Mr Nyembe has mentioned the NHLS, the blood bank and laundry services are present in the hospital before we can start bringing patients in."
