Depot blocked, tyres burnt as Gautrain workers down tools
Updated | By Neo Motloung & Sibahle Motha
Buses have been prevented from leaving the Gautrain depot in Midrand after striking workers took to the streets over wage demands on Monday morning.

Plumes of smoke, from the burning tyres could be seen at the Midrand depot, as workers demonstrated their dissatisfaction over management’s wage offer.
Management is offering an 8.5% wage increase while the United National Transport Union (Untu) is demanding a 10% increase.
The union’s Steve Harris has apologized to Gautrain commuters - but says the blames lies with management as it has not come back to the bargaining table.
It remains highly unlikely that Gautrain services will be running this afternoon or tomorrow.
