The ceremony took place at Parliament's Goodhope Chamber, presided over by Western Cape Acting Judge President Justice Patricia Goliath.

The party boycotted the first sitting following the general elections in protest against what they claim to be vote rigging.

It argued that the sitting to elect a new president should be halted until it can challenge the validity of the election results.

The Jacob Zuma-led party approached the Constitutional Court with an application for an urgent interdict to prohibit Parliament from proceeding with its first sitting, which saw the swearing-in of MPs and the election of the president and speaker.

The application was dismissed.

While many of the MK members are new to Parliament, there were also some new faces in the group.

Notable among the returning lawmakers were former EFF MP and founder of Black First Land First (BLF), Andile Mngxitama, who has since crossed the floor to MK.

He was joined by former finance minister Des van Rooyen.

Jacob Zuma's daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, was also sworn in, together with David Skhosana, who is the husband of former public protector and EFF MP Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

The group was led by former Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe, who now serves as the party's chief whip in Parliament.
