Didiza met with the food processors and farmer associates to evaluate and discuss the availability of food suppliers and farming inputs.

This comes amid the Russia and Ukraine conflict and fears over a possible shortage of wheat and maize. The warnings have led to some incidents of panic-buying in South Africa.

But Didiza says there is no reason for panic as a range of crops have been harvested.

In a statement on Saturday, the minister says an inter-ministerial task team is assessing a series of risks that can impact the South African economy due to tensions in Europe.

The industry has also committed to sharing information about food production to enable better planning and response.
