The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed the conviction of former pathologist,Dr James Mwesinga, in connection with the theft of body parts at the Diepkloof mortuary in Soweto.
Mwesinga appeared at the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The NPA's Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonodwane says Mwesinga was convicted on three counts of theft, violating a body and defeating the administration of justice.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng says it hopes the court throws the book at Mwesinga.
The party's Jack Bloom says the case dates back to November 2013 when Mwesinga attempted to walk out of the mortuary with a bucket that contained a brain, lungs and heart.
Mwesinga is set to be sentenced on Friday.
