"The situation was stabilised yesterday [Saturday]," Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela said.

"The patrols continued overnight. It's quiet now but we are continuing to monitor the area."

A group of about a hundred people attempted to occupy vacant land in the area on Saturday.

Some members of the group barricaded Ingwenyama Road with tyres and other objects.

Police fired rubber bullets at the group of protesters who threw stones at them while they were patrolling the area on foot.

On Saturday, Mavimbela said a 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with public violence. He is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court soon.

A four-year-old boy had also been injured and was receiving medical treatment. The cause thereof was being investigated.
