Diesel predicted to go down as petrol price remain steady

Motorists could be set for some relief at the pumps in April with a drop in the diesel price and the price of petrol remaining steady.
This is according to the Automobile Association (AA), which was commenting on unaudited fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund.
The data is indicating a significant decrease in the price of diesel and illuminating paraffin in the month of April.
The AA is predicting that the decrease to 95ULP is noted at 1.5c per litre, while the decrease to 93ULP is given at just under 4c per litre.
This while diesel is showing more notable decreases of around 78c per litre and illuminating paraffin is set to fall by R1.39 per litre.
AA spokesperson Layton Beard says the main driver behind the decreases is lower international product prices.
"The weaker rand is eroding around 40c/l of the decreases meaning the decreases could have been more significant had the Rand been stronger throughout March.
“The good news, though, is that if adjustments to zone differential costs and the slate levy are made, petrol prices are not likely to increase significantly and diesel and illuminating paraffin prices are still set to come down. The diesel decrease is particularly important because it is a major input cost in the manufacturing, mining, and agricultural sectors, and a decrease to this fuel could prevent immediate rising costs in goods and services,” says Beard.
The official adjustment of the fuel prices come into effect on the first Wednesday of April.
