Dirco axes CFO over New York land scandal
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation has fired its Chief Financial Officer, Caiphus Ramashau, for his role in a controversial land deal in New York.

Government paid R118 million for a dilapidated building meant to house South Africa’s New York Consulate and Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
However, the building was never procured.
The botched deal has also cost the department’s director-general Kgabo Mahoai his job.
They were both charged with gross negligence, irregular and wasteful expenditure for their role in the 2016 deal.
The department’s spokesperson Clayson Monyela says Ramashau was fired following a disciplinary hearing.
