DISBAND NOW!!!: ANCYL infighting plays out on Twitter
Pressure is mounting on the African National Congress (ANC) to disband the youth league's (ANCYL) national executive committee (NEC).
There are growing calls by disgruntled members for a renewal of the youth wing, starting with its leadership.
Collen Maine was elected as the league’s president in 2015, but the leadership’s term in office ended last year and they have not been able to hold an elective conference.
ANCYL member Zuko Godlimpi says the ANC needs to bring the youth league back to the young people of the country.
"We want the national executive committee of the ANC to bring back the ANC youth league to its rightful owners, the youth of South Africa. People between the ages of 14 and 35.
"We want to lobby the provincial chairperson and the provincial secretary of Gauteng to go to the national executive committee of the ANC and to support the motion that this national executive committee must be disbanded."
The ANCYL Gauteng branch marched to the party’s provincial headquarters on Wednesday.

"Their term of office has lapsed. Most of them are above the age of 35."
The infighting spilled over onto social media on Wednesday when the league’s official twitter account called the disbandment of the NEC.
These tweets were later deleted and quickly followed by this one:
Numerous reports suggest that the ANC's national working committee (NWC) has backed this called to disband the youth's NEC.
