Updated | By ANA
The Rustenburg local municipality in North West is in the process of finalising the disciplinary process against its suspended municipal manager, executive mayor Mpho Khunou said on Tuesday.
“We had a disciplinary hearing in February/March. We are at the conclusion of the disciplinary hearing,” he said.
Municipal manager Advocate Bheki Khenisa was suspended in December last year. He was charged with misconduct relating to unspent conditional grants.
The Rustenburg local municipality failed to spend conditional grants from National Treasury amounting to R426.9 million.
The municipality applied to treasury for roll-over of the unspent grants but, the application was rejected because it was the third consecutive year that Rustenburg requesting the roll over of its public transport infrastructure grant (PTIG) and municipal infrastructure grant (MIG).
For the integrated national electrification programme (INEP) and expanded public works programme (EPWP), the rollover request was more than the 2014/15 allocations.
The municipality also did not summit supporting documents for the water service operating subsidy grant.
