Police in Limpopo are investigating the deaths of a doctor couple whose bodies were found in their home in Polokwane on Monday.
The provincial Department of Health says the circumstances surrounding their death are unknown at this stage.
"The police and forensic pathology responded to a call after they were alerted of the scene by the neighbours. The deceased were employed at Pietersburg Hospital and Donald Fraser Hospital respectively," says the department’s spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha.
Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba has described the death of the two medical doctors as an immense loss to the department.
"This is a sad day for me and the entire department. We are devastated. Losing such hardworking, dedicated, and promising young people is a blow for us as the department," said Ramathuba.
One of the victims, Dr Mphikeleli Shikwambana, was appointed as head of Donald Fraser Hospital at the beginning of March.
His wife Dr Tshimangadzo Muofhe was an Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist at Pietersburg hospital.
