Doornkop resumes operations
Updated | By Staff Writer
Operations resumed on Monday after the mineral and energy department lifted section 54 notices it issued to the mine after a seismic event, rockfall, and underground fire on February 4.
Nine mineworkers died in the accident and eight were rescued.
The company said an investigation into the events of February 4 had begun and was expected to continue for at least the next four weeks.
Harmony Gold had voluntarily appointed an external safety audit team to assess and report on safety at all the company's South African operations.
"We will learn more from both processes -- the official investigation and our voluntary audit," said CEO Graham Briggs.
