Cover blown on drivers’ license scam
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The Hawks in the North West have arrested fourteen suspects on charges of drivers' licenses fraud.
The suspects include traffic examiners, driving school owners and instructors.
According to the Hawks Seroius Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, the suspects accepted bribes of up to R10 000.00 in exchange for licenses without subjecting the prospective holders to the mandatory tests.
Provincial police spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso says the suspects were arrested in Potchefstroom and Mogwase.
"This followed various reports about driving school owners allegedly colluding with examiners at testing stations to issue learners' and drivers' licenses to undeserved applicants in exchange for a bribe."
The suspects are due to appear before the Potchefstroom and Mogwase Magistrates' Courts on Tuesday on charges of fraud and corruption.
