The association is unhappy with the online booking system for driver’s licences, which it claims have had a negative impact on businesses.

Spokesperson for the Marlboro Driving School Association Mmereki Legodi says driving school businesses are operating as if the country is still on level 5 of the lockdown.

"The online booking system is damaging our business. Our houses and cars are being repossessed because we don't have businesses anymore.

"The learners' are expiring, we don't have learners' bookings and we don't have drivers' bookings. Online booking doesn't work for us. All their giving us as driving schools is 20%  a week and these are bookings on Tuesdays only.

"Our businesses are on level 5 of lockdown. We are demanding that all licensing departments must open on a full operation so that we can get slots."

Thursday's protest outside the Sandton licensing centre is a prelude to Friday's industrial action across the country.
