Four people were arrested and a drug laboratory was discovered in Moubane near Madikwe outside Rustenburg, North West police said on Wednesday.
"The suspects' arrest follows a crime intelligence driven operation by Phokeng K9 Unit after information was received about a suspicious activity at Moubane village near Madikwe," spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said.
"Subsequently, a search was conducted at the place at approximately 9am on Tuesday. The search paid off when a drug laboratory was discovered. That led to apprehension of four suspects aged between 33 and 37."
He said the police confiscated large pots, chemicals and other materials used to manufacture drugs all worth R8 million.
The two were expected to appear in the Madikwe Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane thanked the community for their cooperation and swift reaction of the police that resulted in the arrest of the suspects.
She said that the discovery of the laboratory was the second major one following the one that was discovered in October 2016 in Boons outside Rustenburg.
