Dullah Omar's nephew shot and killed
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
The nephew of the late African National Congress (ANC) struggle stalwart, Dullah Omar, has been shot and killed in Cape Town.
The exact circumstances surrounding the death of the 38-year-old is not yet known.
"The incident happened on the corners of Lansdowne Road and Jan Smuts Road at 20:30 in Lansdowne. We are investigating what happened and a murder case was registered for investigation," says Western Cape police spokesperson FC van Wyk.
The ANC's Western Cape Provincial Secretary, Faiz Jacobs, has expressed sadness at the passing.
"We as the Western Cape ANC note of the Dullah Omar's nephew in a drive-by shooting. We will express our condolences with the family and attend the funeral on Friday afternoon," says Jacobs.
Last week, the Omar family called for the ANC to remove the struggle stalwart's name from an ANC region in the Western Cape.
His sister Latifa said her brother was a man of integrity, in contrast with the behaviour and actions of ANC leaders and members.
