Durban storm leaves at least one dead
Updated | By Newswatch
Emergency teams have confirmed the death of one person in Mayville, south-west of Durban, where floodwaters washed away several homes during last Tuesday's heavy storm.
"Emergency services responded to Cato Crest where there was a report that several informal dwellings had been washed away in the heavy rain that we experienced last night," says KZN EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie.
"Sadly, six people sustained injuries and were treated at the scene."
McKenzie is urging road users in eThekwini and Ugu, to exercise caution Wednesday morning, as flooding in some parts last night caused mudslides with debris washing onto routes.
Some 50 homes in Inanda's Dube Village, north of Durban, were damaged, while two people were hurt.
