They've also dismissed a message that has been circulating on social media, claiming that the institution has been shut down for the rest of the year.

Spokesperson, Alan Khan, says students and staff have been notified about the hoax message.

"We issued a statement, posted this on our website, emailed it to all staff and students just to clarify the position that one - the university is not shutting down, two - we are not asking students to leave residences, and three - we are certainly not asking our students to re-register for 2016. DUT is very much open," he said.

Khan has urged students planning to protest to do so peacefully and respect the rights of non-protesting students.

Last week students brought the university to a standstill when they disrupted classes and clashed with police.
