The NSRI responded to reports at around 5.30pm on Thursday that two women were in trouble, said spokesman Craig Lambinon in a statement.

One woman, 58, was rescued by bystanders.

The NSRI crew found the body of the second woman, 65, about 300m off shore.

They pulled her onto their boat and tried to resuscitate her but she was later declared dead by a doctor.

The police and Dutch Consulate were assisting the survivor, he said.
