Eastern Cape axe murderer handed life sentence
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
A 32-year-old Eastern Cape man has been handed six life terms for the murder of his girlfriend and five children.
Nowa Makula was sentenced on Monday by Elliotdale regional court.
He admitted to axing his girlfriend and five children to death in a brutal attack in Sida-bekweni Village near Elliotdale last November.
Despite the conviction, spokesperson for National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape, Luxolo Tyali, has slammed law enforcement for the amount of time it took to bring Makula to book.
"We as NPA think that the way this case has been handled and a swift manner in which it was finalised that it took six months between his arrest and his sentencing should be a way that it should be emulating from going forward and how we deal with our cases.
"We believe that our communities want to see justice served in a quick manner, so the way that this case has been done, it shouldn't be how it is done going forward as NPA."
