Eastern Cape man dies in police gun battle after killing grandparents

The incident took place at Mkhwenezi Locality in Qumbu in the Eastern Cape.

Police spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana says when police were called to the scene on Sunday, they found that the perpetrator had barricaded all doors with a wardrobe, preventing anyone from entering.
“As the police tried to force their way inside the house, the suspect is alleged to have advanced with his firearm towards the police who had no option but to defend themselves. During the struggle, the suspect who is believed to be the grandson of the deceased was fatally wounded.”
When police searched further, they discovered two bodies of the perpetrator's grandparents.

Kinana believes that a “sharp and hardened” instrument was used in killing the elderly.
The police discovered two deceased bodies of the elderly aged between 66 and 76, seriously injured inside one of the rooms.
