Eastern Cape man on the run after killing wife, kids with axe
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
Police in the Eastern Cape are hunting for a man who is believed to have killed his wife and five children with an axe in Kwaaiman.
The police, who were alerted by members of the community, found the bodies of the six victims on the floor in their home on Tuesday.
“After suspecting that something went wrong in this particular homestead, the neighbouring villagers alerted our police officers who then responded, on arrival at the scene, they found six bodies lying deceased,” Eastern Cape police spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana says.
“The deceased include a 42-year-old mother and five children aged between six months and 10 years. It is believed that an axe which was found at the scene was used as an instrument to commit these crimes.
Kinana says the man is believed to be the husband and father.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and six murder cases have been registered for investigation. A man believed to be a husband to the deceased mother has disappeared without any trace at the moment, we are therefore requesting the community assistance to find the husband whom we believe is in a position to assist the police investigation into the incident.”
