DA leader Mmusi Maimane gave feedback on the party's federal executive meeting in Johannesburg on Saturday.

He was joined by outgoing FedEx chairperson James Selfe and Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba.

Maimane said the dire state of the economy is of real concern.

The economy is predicted to  grow at less than 1% this year, with the slow economic growth, government debt and the struggling state-owned enterprises sparking fears of another credit rating downgrade.

"When you look at South Africa and South Africans, no one can deny the fact that many of the citizens are living in fear,” said Maimane.

"They fear where the next job is going to come from. They fear that their children will not be able to participate  in the economy."

Maimane said the recovery plan is aimed at rejuvenating the economy, as it’s the country's biggest crisis.

"We have seen 18 months of the so-called false new dawn and in that, we have seen no deliberate reforms, we have no bold plans in order to resuscitate the economy of our country.

"We have demonstrated by building a capable state you can, in fact, build an economic plan that will be able to resuscitate our economy."
