Education department pleads with Vuwani residents to allow pupils to return to school

The Limpopo Education Department has pleaded with Vuwani residents to allow pupils to return to school.
Schooling has still not fully resumed in Vuwani.
More than 20 schools were torched and vandalised during destructive protests in June.
The provincial education department's Naledzani Rasila said the catch-up programme has been postponed several times.
"Unfortunately it's being postponed, because the situation in the affected areas is not conducive for learning and teaching," Rasila said.
He added that the department hopes the community will allow pupils to return to school soon.
Pupils in Vuwani were unable to sit for the June exams.
Meanwhile, the department has received donations worth R2million to assist with efforts to resume schooling in Vuwani.
Rasila says a Donor Funding Clearing Committee has been established ensure there is only one entry point for donations.
"We urge all individuals and institutions who wish to donate, to do so through our entry point," said Rasila.
Donors can call Charlene Deacon on 082 389 9851 or Phill Malahlela on 082 906 0297 / 076 242 8223.
