Education MEC: Parents need to confirm placements
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
The Gauteng education department is appealing to Parents of grades 1 and 8 learners to urgently confirm placement offers for the 2017 school year or run the risk of losing a seat for their child.

According to Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi, despite some teething problems with the online application system more than 229 000 learners have been placed.
Lesufi briefed media on his department's state of readiness for 2017, saying that the online application system has made it easier to plan for the 2017 academic year.
"We are convinced that our online registration has been working fine," Lesufi said.

Time is however running out for parents who haven't confirmed placement offers for their children.
"We've got 10 400 places available in schools across the province but people have not accepted that placements to we might have to remove those names," he added.
Meanwhile the department has confirmed that more than 82 000 learners - in grades 1 and 8 - still don't have space for next year.
