They claim some school teachers are teaching some subjects including Afrikaans and English in vernacular languages at an Afrikaans / English medium school.

One of the concerned parents, Veronica Marian, says police are also probing a case of sexual assault.

“For some time now the learners and the parents have been complaining about allege rape cases and abuse. The safety of students is not guaranteed because of the inconducive environment.

“Cases have been opened, some parents went to the school to resolve the issue, but the matter was swept under the carpet.”

The Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson Steve Mabona says they will deploy a safety coordinator to the school.

“Parents raise issues that needs to be attended from the safety of the children and sexual assaults cases not attended to the quality of education.

“We will reopen the cases and send a safety coordinator to interact with learners and train them how to identify bullying and how guide them on how to report cases.

“The curriculum team will go with the district director to the school to look at the allegations of quality of education that parents are complaining about.”
