EFF to approach Supreme Court over Trevor Manuel judgement

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has confirmed the party will head to the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) to petition a leave for appeal in the defamation case brought against the party by former Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel.

This comes after the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg dismissed their application on Tuesday morning.

Manuel took legal action against the party following a statement that the appointment of South African Revenue Service (Sars) Commissioner Edward Kieswetter, was based on nepotism.

EFF secretary general Gordrich Gardee says they believe another court may provide a judgement in their favour.
"We hold a different view to the judgement of the lower court and we believe that there was a misapplication of such a law by the lower court," says Gardee.
