EFF calls for return to level 5 lockdown

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to take the country back to lockdown level 5.

he call comes after the steep rise in Covid-19 numbers in the country.
The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 151 209 - with 6 945 new cases reported in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday evening.

The red berets say as things stand, neither the public nor private health care will cope.

"No amount of social distancing, wearing masks or sanitisation will help reduce the rise in infections and death. The only strategy that will help is staying at home," reads the statement by the EFF.
"As a result, thousands of people will die - simply because they cannot get access to healthcare.
"In the next few weeks, the majority of companies, schools and public spaces will be unable to operate as workers and customers will be infected.".
The EFF says the country should unite in ensuring the supply of food, electricity, water and sanitation for all in order to sustain level 5 for a couple of months.
