EFF cop fired

Moses Sake booked off work in May, claiming to take his sick child to the doctor, but was instead seen taking part in protests outside the Alexandra Magistrate's Court, Brigadier Neville Malila said.

 

At the time of the protests, Malila told Sapa that around 300 people had gathered and were burning tyres outside the court. They were protesting at the court appearance of people arrested for public violence during the elections.

 

On Thursday, Malila said Mako was one of the protesters who tried to negotiate with the police during the protest.

 

"He was linked to this incident through video footage which we took of the protests. Other police officers who were there also identified him," said Malila.

 

He explained that besides lying about his reason for being off work, Mako was not supposed to have taken part in any political action.

 

"We cannot be actively involved in politics or be seen to be members of a particular party," said Malila.

 

Mako appeared before a disciplinary hearing before he was dismissed last week.
