The Economic Freedom Fighters dismissed allegations that their leader Julius Malema and three other men were being investigated for alleged assault.

"The commander in chief is under no investigation, those allegations are false must as a result be treated as such (sic)," said spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi on Thursday.

He said the allegations were malicious and intended to negatively dent Malema's reputation.

On Wednesday, Limpopo police said they were investigating a common assault allegation against Malema and three other men after a reported road rage incident in Polokwane.

A 22-year-old motorist alleged that he was cornered by a Mercedes Benz when he turned into a street.

"Three men got out of the Mercedes Benz, grabbed the motorist, and manhandled him while shouting at him," police said at the time.

Malema allegedly got out of the Mercedes and joined the three men.

Ndlozi said Malema did not receive any indication that he was being investigated.

He said there were also reports that charges were withdrawn because of mistaken identity.

Limpopo police were not immediately available to comment on Thursday.
