EFF: Julius Malema stopped by police members
Updated | By MornéJK
The EFF has released a statement saying that their leader, Julius Malema was attacked at an off-ramp in Johannesburg on Sunday night.
According to the statement, the Commander-in-Chief and President of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema, was stopped by an unmarked van on the Grayston drive offramp in Sandton.
"He was immediately surrounded by about 10 police cars & the police then all came out pointing guns at his car, forcing him to get out," the statment read.
The party expressed their disgust at the incident, saying that the entire intersection was blocked, isolating him from the rest of the traffic.
"The CIC Julius Malema got out and the police all did nothing, claiming it was a mistake. He forced his way around the police cars, driving over the pavements and drove off," the party said.
Party spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi on Monday confirmed the incident to Jacaranda FM news, saying that this was a clear indication that their members, and more spesifically their leader, was being followed.
"The EFF takes this as a clear act of intimidation and demonstration that the enemy is following our CIC Julius Malema around. The CIC was from Soweto, attending an EFF Manifesto Launch Preparatory Meeting. We believe that the white unmarked van which stopped him first could have been following and tracking him from Soweto," the party said.
