Government has entered into cooperation agreements with several countries, including Russia, in what was seen as the start of plans to procure nuclear energy.

The Court rules in favour of Earthlife Africa (ELA) and the Southern African Faith Communities' Enviroment Institute (SAFCEI).

The court said government should have consulted the public and Parliament before signing the deal.

The EFF's Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says this is a victory against "kleptocracy".

"We welcome the court judgment because there was no public consulation nor the consultation of Parliament. We welcome this as a victory against state capture by Zuma and the Guptas. Our courts have once more proven to be independent" says Ndlozi

Nldozi says this is just another reason why President Jacob Zuma needs to step  down.

"Our courts have shown to be the last resort to resist the state of lawlesness that Zuma wants to launch us into. It must also be welcome as another concrete evidence that Zuma must step down from office. He is willing to do everything in his power to undermine the rule of law in persuit of corrupt interests."
