EFF: Stadiums must be opened to full capacity

The EFF has reiterated its call for the government to reopen stadiums to full capacity.
The party’s call comes at the back of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Tuesday evening address where he announced that stadiums and other public gatherings can now fill 50% of the venues’ capacity.
This can be done on the condition that fans and supporters have proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test.
Earlier this year, the EFF and sports supporters marched to the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture demanding the reopening of stadiums.
EFF spokesperson Leigh-Anne Mathys says the closure of stadiums has taken away people’s income, including hawkers who sell during sporting events.
“Hawkers, ticket salespersons, ground staff and the entire economy in the sprouting fraternity is suffering, because Ramaphosa is on a warpath to destroy the economy so as to allow for the private sector and imperialists to run our affairs.
“The EFF reiterates the call for all fans and ordinary people to demand for full access to stadiums. All that has become clear from Ramaphosa’s address and relevant government deliberations, is that he is desperate to hold onto the power the Covid-19 pandemic afforded him, by retaining some features of the lockdown permanently on legislation,” she adds.
