EFF Gauteng chairperson Mandisa Mashego took the stand at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

She was testifying in aggravation of sentence.

Catzavelos was found guilty of crimen injuria in 2019 after pleading guilty.

Mashego opened a criminal case against Catzavelos after the video went viral.

"I would wish that over and above the crimen injuria charge, that for racism alone, Adam serves nothing less than 10 years behind bars for racism alone. On crimen injuria I am not sure, whatever the court decides I will agree too as a complainant in this case.”

Seth Mazibuko, who owns a legacy foundation that assists the elderly in Orlando, told the court sending Catzavelos to jail would serve no purpose.

Catzavelos spent 160 hours doing community service at Mazibuko's foundation.

"I would like to use Adam more for reconciliation in the country and to go out there to apologise to the country. And I'm wondering if sending him to prison will serve that purpose but it up to the court and the people of South Africa to make that decision. But from my side I would say it really would not assist.”

Catzavelos will be back in court on February 28th for sentencing.
