EFF will never denounce Russia, vows Malema

EFF leader Julius Malema says South Africans won't support the imposing of sanctions as the country was supported by Russia during apartheid.

Malema addressed the EFF's Sharpeville Day Commemoration Rally at Dlomo Dam in Sharpeville on Monday.
“Because a white man is being killed in Ukraine we are all being called to sanction Russia, to denounce Russia.
“We will never denounce Russia because Russia was with us during difficult times.”

Malema said the weapons that liberation movement used during apartheid were given to them by Russia.
“You see the AK47 that we used to liberate ourselves it was from Russia? It was given to us by the Russians to come here and kill those who were killing our people with an automatic rifle called AK47.”
Malema’s remarks come latest reports on Russia invading Ukraine show Russian forces -- stymied by unexpectedly fierce Ukrainian resistance, and reportedly facing shortages of weapons and supplies -- making increased use of long-range missiles.
“Russians did not only support us through lip service, but they also equipped us with weapons. Russia gave us money to fight apartheid.”
Malema said another reason why South Africans should is the education it provided to struggle leaders.
“Many of the people who are leading South Africa today, like Lindiwe Zulu went to school in Russia.
“Why did they take them to school, Russia was believing the one day that South Africa would have a black government and a black president, therefore we need to prepare black people today for the future.”
