Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina says it's virtually impossible to rescue the 5-year-old boy who fell into a mine shaft in Boksburg.

Masina briefed the media in Germiston on progress of the rescue mission this afternoon
Masina says he has asked the Department of Defence to intervene.
The young boy feel into the shaft over the weekend.
Masina says no human being can survive on 11 percent oxygen levels and that his family has to be prepared for the worst.
The mayor says they can't afford to lose any more lives in the rescue mission.
"The shaft is a declined shaft, dipping about 45 degrees. The acid mine water level in the area is at a vertical depth of about 160 metres below the surface," says Masina.
