Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
A woman died in Ekurhuleni on Saturday evening when she was caught under a friend’s car during a hijacking attempt.
The woman and three others were in a parked car in Daveyton, when they were approached by an unknown number of suspects who demanded they hand over the car and keys.
One passenger in the back safely jumped out the stationary car.
The driver of the car then tried to flee from the armed hijackers when the second woman jumped from the passenger seat.
But Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the woman lost her footing, was dragged under the moving car.
She died on the scene.
“As the police we have since opened a case of culpable homicide, we obtained the statements from all the witnesses and we’ll then take the docket to court for requisitions.”
