Elderly man gets stolen cell phone back at OR Tambo airport

Ekurhuleni metro police have managed to arrest a suspected cell phone thief who targeted an elderly man at OR Tambo International Airport.
The man’s cell phone was stolen by someone who sitting close to him at one of the terminals.
Benjamin Robinson, who lives in Ekurhuleni, alerted one of the metro cops on duty at the airport.
They then used his daughter's phone to track his device.
"The phone was later located in a moving vehicle, close to the cargo section of the airport. Officers then blocked off the road and searched the vehicles, starting with a Harambee Bus. All passengers were asked to step out of the bus, and the stolen cell phone was found under one of the seats in the bus,” said metro police spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa
"The bus driver identified the passenger who was sitting on that said seat."
Robinson also confirmed the suspect was the last person he spoke to about his missing phone.
The suspect subsequently confessed to the theft.
"The 30-year-old male suspect was immediately placed under arrest, and detained at the OR Tambo International Airport police station, charged with theft,” Thepa added.
The suspect will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
