Elderly woman survives suspected murder-suicide in Voëlklip
An elderly woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she sustained a gunshot wound to the head what police believe to be a murder-suicide.
The woman, who is in her mid 70s, was discovered sitting on a bench alongside the lifeless body of a man in Voëlklip near George on Sunday.
The man, who police suspect to be roughly the same as the woman, also sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Western Cape police spokesperson Malcolm Poje says the victims were discovered by a passerby.

"The woman survived the incident and is in a critical condition where she is currently being treated in hospital.
"The gentleman, who was in his 70s, was found dead. We confiscated a firearm that was found on scene. It is alleged that one of the two shot the one and then themselves afterwards."
Police are investigating the circumstance that led to the incident.
